While the worst of summer is behind us now, our foundation still needs a little help.

That’s why powder exists, and we’ve rounded up five of the best for your reference. They vary in finish – some are glowy, and some impressively matte – but they’re all worth your attention.

With the 80 per cent humidity of September still ahead of us, you’ll be wanting to pick at least one of these up. Consider it an investment in you.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder

Hourglass products tend to be pretty gorgeous, and this powder (Dhs 165) is one of their best. It’ll set your foundation and concealer beautifully, and it looks great in person. But in photos, it truly shines. Your skin will look so exaggeratedly perfect you’ll wonder if you blacked out and FaceTuned yourself. We use Dim Light as an all-over setting powder, but it comes in six shades all up.

MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural

We’ve heard this referred to as a tinted moisturiser in powder form before, and as much as that seems counter-intuitive, when you’ve tried it, it makes sense. Equally lovely on its own on low-makeup days, and over foundation when you’re doing the whole deal, it adds that tiny bit of coverage that makes you look well-rested. We also love that it comes in 17 shades. There’s bound to be one that suits you. Dhs164.

Make Up Forever Ultra HD Microfinishing Pressed Powder

You’ll want to use a light hand with this one – we’ve all seen the pictures of it flashing back in photos – but it’s worth the risk. Made with silica and hyaluronic acid, when blended properly it’ll give you the smoothest skin you can imagine. More than worth the Dhs185.

RMS Beauty ‘Un’ Powder

For the oily-skinned among us, this is a godsend. It’s 100 per cent silica, but honestly, that’s all you need. Your skin will look like velvet and your foundation will last all day. What more could a person want? Dhs151.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder

We’ve bought cups of coffee pricier than this Dhs20 winner. By far the best affordable setting powder on the market, and we’ve tried a few. The translucent version simply disappears into your foundation, encouraging it to do its best work and stay put throughout the day. One to keep in the car for quick touch-ups.
