Want your liner to stay where you put it? Same here.
In heat like this, getting too elaborate with your eye makeup is a fool’s errand. What’s the point of blending three shades of eyeshadow into a perfectly defined crease when you know it’s all going to melt the second you step outside?
That being said, an ink-black swoosh is a very quick way to feel like you put a tiny bit of effort in. We’re not quite off it yet, but we are choosing our products carefully. Not all liquid liners are created equal.
Read on for our long-term faves. These are the liners we rely on.
L’Oreal Superliner Superstar Liner, Dhs32.90
This is the stuff that matte-black dreams are made of. Like all pen liners, it doesn’t have the longest shelf life, but while it’s with you, it’ll fill you with joy. Velvety and precise, this affordable product goes exactly where you want it and stays put. Don’t rub your eyes, but aside from that, you won’t be disappointed.
Urban Decay Razor Sharp Water-Resistant Longwear Liquid Eyeliner, Dhs99
The best thing about this product (apart from how opaque it applies and its super-slim brush) is how easily it comes off at the end of the night. Rather than smudging all over your face, it peels away in pieces. Before that, though, it won’t move. Good stuff. And because it’s Urban Decay, you know it comes in a million (read: 20) colours.
Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Colour Bold Defining 24HR Liquid Eye Liner, Dhs65.48 on sale
They call it waterproof, but we’re here to tell you it’s also sweat-proof. If this liner can make it through four hours on the dance floor (and it can) then it’s sure to last you through a work day and then some. We’ve found this product particularly good for creating a very fine line.
Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner, Dhs68
If you prefer a shinier finish to your cat eye, this is the product for you. We’ve seen people work a full shift in a cafe kitchen wearing this and emerge with their wings intact. It means business.
Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner, Dhs75.20
This is legitimately like a Sharpie in terms of ease of use, but with a finer tip and a formula you actually want to put on your eyes. It’s Alexa Chung’s favourite, too, and that’s good enough for us.
