A fashion first for women in the Kingdom

The brand Sheen will make fashion history later this month, when it will become the first ever Saudi jewellery company to exhibit at London Fashion Week.

The event is set to take place at the Designer Showrooms, which hand-selects 150 British and international brands.

Sheen is the brainchild of Nosheen Bakhsh, a Saudi designer who is currently based in Dubai. Founded in September 2013 and designed in Dubai, the brand fuses Nosheen’s interests in jewellery design and social causes. A percentage of proceeds from all sales are donated to UNCHR and Doctors Without Borders (MSF).

Speaking exclusively to Emirates Woman, she described how ecstatic she was to be selected: “Being the first Saudi jewellery brand to participate is an honour. I hope this paves the way for many more designers and that we see more  Middle Eastern designers showcasing at international fashion weeks.”

Sheen’s Chandi collection is the second to be created in silver. It’s inspired by Nosheen’s trip to the Rajasthan states of Jaipur and Udaipur, renowned for its Mughal history and colourfulness.

The collection fuses Middle Eastern elegance with the intricate designs found in Indian jewellery.

Nosheen stresses that it’s possible for women in the region to overcome obstacles to achieve their dreams: “Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Starting a business isn’t ever going to be busy,” she says. “Once you commit to something, try to be patient and consistent and eventually opportunities will come forth. Take calculated risks and don’t be afraid to fail because it’s not over unless you give up.”

Nosheen joins another fashion label from the Middle East who is set to showcase at LFW for the first time. Emerging Egyptian label Three Fifty Nine will showcase its spring/summer 2019 collection after it won a prestigious fashion competition in Dubai.

London Fashion Week kicks off on 14th September.
