With the FIFA World Cup 2014 in full swing in Brazil, we decided to take you on a vibrant journey through the tournament’s host cities. There are 12 cities taking part including Sao Paulo, Fortaleza, Manaus, Brasilia, Salvador da Bahia, Cuiaba, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba, Rio De Janeiro Natal and Recife where we continue our journey…
Recife
On the eastern coast, Recife is a gritty city of skyscrapers, crowds and traffic with a lively entertainment and restaurant scene.
USP: Be careful where you swim. Recife beaches have an alarmingly high rate of shark attacks!
Shop: Find something unique and vintage at Feirinha do Recife Antigo street market on a Sunday afternoon. After shopping you can pop into the nearby bars for live music.
Eat and Drink: The old town, Recife Antigo, is well worth a visit. The neighbourhood, full of earthy bars and restaurants, comes alive at night. For something more upmarket try Boa Viagem. As well as cafes, restaurants, and a lively nightclub scene, the beach is lit up at night for midnight swims.
Sleep: You get good value for money when it comes to accommodation in Recife. Prices at the five star hotel, Atlante Plaza, start from Dhs600 per night. Located in the Boa Viagem area it’s close to the beach, nightlife and the shops.
