A fitting tribute.

The late German designer, who passed away in February, left a lasting mark on both Chanel and Fendi and created a loyal following for his namesake label. To mark the tremendous impact he had on the industry, all of the three houses he was associated with are planning a memorial in Paris on June 20.

Most recently it was announced that Pharrell Williams will be performing as well as pianist Lang Lang and violinist Charlie Siem. There will also be readings by Tilda Swinton and Fanny Ardant.

Titled ‘Karl For Ever’ and held in the main hall of the Grand Palais – the venue for many of Chanel’s runway shows – the 90-minute event will be overseen by theatre and opera director Robert Carsen will include performances by dancers from Buenos Aires, musicians, and actors.

According to WWD, organisers have also revealed some of the set design that will feature 56 towers that will be covered in portrait of the late designer, three giant LED screens, custom carpets, a main stage as well as two Steinway pianos.

Taking place during Men’s Fashion Week, the memorial will feature interviews with friends of the house such as Nicolas Ghesquière, Princess Caroline of Hanover and Maria Grazia Chiuri; his muses like Gigi Hadid and Claudia Schiffer; as well as videos of Karl himself. It will be an invite-only event for around 2,500 guests.

A fitting tribute to a true icon of style.
