The iconic Fendi baguette is getting an A-list makeover courtesy of singer Rihanna, actress Sarah Jessica Parker, artist Rachel Feinstein, model Jourdan Dunn and The Man Repeller’s Leandra Medine.
The five uber-stylish celebrities – Rihanna, Sarah Jessica Parker, Rachel Feinstein, Jourdan Dunn and Leandra Medine – are turning their creative hands to fashion design, creating bespoke versions of the Fendi 3Baguette handbag in honour of the brand’s new Madison Avenue flagship. The Fendi baguette has become an iconic tote for the brand, famed for its FF logo as lock and its sleek design that allows your to carry it snugly under your armpit. The fashion craze for the bag is so big it has been dubbed BaguetteMania, and there is even a book!
In true glam fashion style, the celeb-designed bags will go on display in the new store on February 13 during a glitzy cocktail party hosted by Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi. The bags will remain on display until March 13 and will be available to purchase through launch3baguetteauction.fendi.com, an online auction site that Fendi is launching at the end of the month.
“The Fendi customer is active in different fields and engaged socially,” Pietro Beccari, Fendi’s chairman and chief executive officer, told WWD, explaining the five A-list artists. “There is not only one kind of woman and they are each excellent in their own field. They had free rein, choosing their favourite colours, favouring their own personal tastes. It also shows that nothing is impossible with the incredible artisans at Fendi.”
As well as contributing to fashion, the celebrities are using proceeds from their bag designs to go toward charitable campaigns. Proceeds from Rihanna’s designs will go to an organisation close to her heart – The Clara Lionel Foundation, which founded in 2012 in honour of her grandparents. The charity works to improve the quality of life for communities globally in the areas of health, education, arts and culture.
Meanwhile Sarah Jessica Parker, who made the original Fendi Baguette popular thanks to it being a wardrobe staple for her Sex And The City character Carrie Bradshaw, will donate the sales of her bag to The Brain Trauma Foundation. Jourdan Dunn‘s will support The Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Rachel Feinstein has chosen Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center as her charity and Leandra Medine is supporting the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.
The bags will be on display from February 13 to March 13 and will available to purchase on the auction site. Fashion for cause is always a good reason to flex some plastic…
