Dolce & Gabbana has reinvented its make-up collection with a new formula that combines the very best natural ingredients from the Mediterranean and Shiseido’s in-house technology, and packaged it all in the most fashionable way. One of their beauty ambassadors, Chiara Scelsi, talks us through her favourite elements and reveals her five-minute makeup routine.
The new Dolce & Gabbana make-up line is created for real women of all different generations and different cultures. As one of its eight ambassadors, what do you think you bring to this diverse group of faces?
I think I’m representing my generation: young, smart and always connected.
What was your reaction when you first saw the new Dolce & Gabbana make-up line?
I was struck by how beautiful, innovative and youthful the collection is. I wanted it all!
In the new collection, each make-up product is designed like a fashion accessory, with one of six motifs – Sicilian cart, lace, flowers, iconic gold, damask and animalier print. Which of these is your favourite, and why?
I love the animalier print. Its indomitable spirit and wild sensuality suits perfectly with my character. It’s also an iconic pattern for Dolce&Gabbana.
What’s the one product from the new Dolce & Gabbana make-up line that will become your everyday must-have?
My must-have is Millennialskin – a light tinted moisturiser which guarantees a bright, even and glowing complexion and also protects my skin from the environment. It’s perfect for my lifestyle because I’m always travelling and it’s so easy to apply when I’m on the move.
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is crazy, colourful and extrovert – it’s not that easy to pin down.
The new Dolce & Gabbana make-up line is created for women who live with passion. What are you most passionate about?
What I’m really passionate about is animals. When I get a chance, between work commitments and all the travel, I volunteer at a dog shelter and I love every minute of it! I’m really passionate about animal rights, so I do my best to support animal causes however I can.
How long do you spend doing your make up every day and what is your routine?
And what is your ‘five-minute face’ when you don’t have much time to do your make up?
I have a very frenetic life – sometimes I have to be ready in ten minutes and Millennialskin is perfect for those times, because it’s so quick and easy to use but it makes my skin look glowing, even when I haven’t had enough sleep. If I’m really in a hurry, I just use lip balm and mascara and I’m ready to go!
What is the best make-up tip you have picked up?
Are there any tricks you have learned from women in your family? None of the women in my family ever go out without mascara. Even though I have naturally dark lashes, a couple of coats of mascara makes such a difference to my face – it opens up my eyes and makes me feel put together, even if I’m wearing no other make-up.
Which shade of lipstick do you always feel good in?
I love nude shades of lipstick – I don’t really like strong colour on my lips.
How different do you feel when wearing make-up vs being bare-faced?
I feel very comfortable with no make-up and I like feeling natural, but when I am wearing make-up, I definitely feel more feminine.
What makes you feel more confident and more ‘yourself’?
Being around the people I love or being around animals – they always make me feel myself and give me a different perspective when things are hectic and life is a little too crazy. In terms of make-up, I feel the most confident and most myself when I look natural – I feel best in a nude look that gives my face radiance but doesn’t make me look like I have too much make-up on.
