Lazy yet stylish outfits, the winter coat that ceases to go out of fashion, and the one-stop shop for party cheap and chic party pieces. Style director Jade Sprowson answers this week’s style dilemmas.
Q) There will be lots of lazing on the sofa during the festive period and I want some cosy loungewear that doesn’t scream scruffy slob. What can you advise?
A) There’s no other season that has embraced comfort dressing more than autumn/winter 2014. At Céline, Chanel, Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney we saw head-to-toe knit ensembles, while Paul Smith sent mismatching silk pyjamas down the runway. Pair the two trends together and what do we have? A chic yet wonderfully comfy outfit that you won’t want to take off. Ever.
Q) I want to buy a winter coat that I will still love next year. Can you recommend something that is of the moment, yet won’t date?
A) One word: camel. No, not the furry humped animal that resides in the desert but the no-fuss, neutral hued coat that comes in various styles. From the cape to oversized boyfriend cuts, floor length, belted or cropped, the camel-coloured coat is a true classic.
Q) It’s my birthday next month and I want to look special but I’m on a tight budget, is it possible to get a full outfit for under Dhs600?
A) There are plenty of dresses under Dhs600 but a whole outfit? That’s a challenge. Or should I say, was a challenge until I wandered into H&M discovered all the elements of a fabulous party look left, right and centre.
I love the idea of wearing this silky shirt dress with glossy tanned legs, sexy Jimmy Choo-esque caged sandals, a minaudiere slung over a shoulder, sparkly drop earrings and a smudging of khol eye-liner. Kate Moss eat your heart out.
