Fashion Q&A, It Bags

From investment bags every tote-obsessed girl needs to wearing your winter wardrobe in warmer climes and sporting trainers outside of the gym, Style director, Jade Sprowson answers this week’s style dilemmas.

Q) Is it too late for me jump on the fashion trainer bandwagon?

Absolutely not, the humble trainer is still a key focus for style mavens around the world. Especially now Mary Katrantzou has collaborated with Adidas Originals with a collection due to launch on November 15.

Along with sporty dresses, mini-skirts and bomber jackets, the print-tastic designer has created six beautiful, bold running shoes. You’ll find sneakers sprayed with studs, Mary’s signature hyper-real prints and an array of vivid colour-ways.

There are two ways to wear these bad boys, (three if you’re planning on wearing them to the gym, not that we are). Number one, wear with bare legs and a mini-skirt, or option number two, pair with spray-on skinny jeans and a crisp white blouse – avoid anything baggy on the bottom half or you may end up looking like MC Hammer.

Q) I want to invest in a new bag that won’t go out of fashion by 2015?

In my opinion there are two It bags this winter, both of which are classic in shape, come in black with gold hardware details and are perfectly sized for everyday use.

First up is the Chloé Drew bag. As soon as I laid eyes on the minimal cross-body bag I knew it was a keeper. Similar shape to that of the Chloé Marcie, but more sleek than its boho sister, the Drew comes in a glossy black leather with top handle along with a long strap.

It’s a no brainer if you’re looking for a practical investment piece you only have to look at Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who’s been rocking it every other day for the past few months.

If there’s one bag that you can justify splashing your hard-earned cash on then the Lanvin Sugar is the bag for your. Roll it up for an alternative evening clutch bag or swing the gold strap over your shoulder for nonchalant daytime glamour a la Carine Roitfeld.

The butter soft leather comes in a quilted effect with metal studs around the edge but the best bit is the three large inside pockets – you’ve got to admit, even the most easy-going ladies love a compartment. This dependable beauty is going to have you looking stylish for years to come, we promise.

Q) The UAE’s beautiful weather has me yearning to wear my summer frocks, how do I dress for the new season while keeping cool?

I hear you! Last week I found myself sipping Pina Colada’s on the beach wearing a leather mini skirt, silk camisole and my Alexander Wang double strap courts – not the perfect beach attire, but I was bang on trend for fall.

One way to solve this style conundrum is winter florals. Opt for wintery hues in gentle ditsy prints, like L.K. Bennett’s full midi skirt. Team with a structured crop top (a little bit of midriff never hurt anyone) and keep your toes cool with some chunky metallic sandals. You will be hot on all of the autumn/winter 2014 trends but you’ll be as chilled as that iced cocktail.
