He was 67-years-old

It was announced today that veteran Egyptian actor, Farouk el-Fishawy has passed away at the age of 67. Last October, at the opening of the Alexandria Mediterranean Film Festival he revealed that he has been diagnosed with cancer.

The Egyptian actor appeared in numerous films and TV shows throughout his decades-long career. His latest film appearance was in 2018’s comedy-action film Lailat Hana wa Suroor. Even though El-Fishawy was diagnosed with cancer, he was determined not to let it take over his life. “After some tests and radiation, my doctor told me I have cancer, I will treat this disease as a headache, and with determination I will win … I will defeat it and I will attend the next session of the Alexandria Festival to be with you, and to congratulate another colleague for his honour,” he said at the film festival.

Several stars took to Instagram and Facebook after the actor’s passing to pay their tribute:

The Tunisian actress took to Facebook to pay tribute. She wrote: “I can’t believe it. The artist who loves life and people. Loved by his colleagues, the great artist Farouk el-Fishawy has passed away, may God bless him and make him a place in paradise.”

The Lebanese songstress posted a picture of herself with the late actor on Instagram, captioning it: “Rest in peace. God have mercy on him and make him a place in paradise. This is so sad.”

The Egyptian actor has an upcoming film with the late actor’s son, Ahmed el-Fishawy. He wrote on his Instagram: “He was an exceptional person who loves life and loves everyone around him. Simple, honest and straight forward. God bless you, uncle Farouk, I will miss you so much, but hopefully you are in a better place. Please pray to him for mercy and forgiveness.”
