Famed French fashion and portrait photographer Patrick Demarchelier has died aged 78.

His passing was announced on his official Instagram page, with no cause of death specified.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patrick Demarchelier on March 31st 2022, at the age of 78,” the statement read. “He is survived by his wife Mia, his three sons Gustaf, Arthur, Victor and three grandchildren.”

Demarchelier is one of the most celebrated fashion and portrait photographers of all time having shot iconic brands including Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Carolina Herrera, Vera Wang, Celine, Louis Vuitton and more.

Throughout the years, the photographer has photographed some of the most prolific celebrities and models the globe-over including Madonna, Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez and more.

Demarchelier was also known to be Princess Diana’s favourite photographer. He took one of the most iconic photographs of the late Princess of Wales where she is seen wearing a strapless dress and diamond tiara.

Upon the announcement of his death, many of those in the fashion world paid tribute to Demarchelier including Cindy Crawford, Vera Wang, Bella Hadid, Hailey Bieber and more.
