Working out in a hot room? In the middle of the desert? What may at first seem like an insane idea actually turns out to be inspired, says Deputy Editor Lyndsey Steven as she heads to Inspire yoga, pilates and fitness studio for #EWGetsFit.

What is it?

If there’s one thing we’re always striving towards at EW headquarters, it’s balance, which is why we’ve fast become fans of Inspire. The shared vision of lifelong fitness enthusiasts John Iossifidis and Elisa Fausto-Iossifidis, Inspire not only offers a range of fitness, yoga and pilates classes for all ages, sizes and levels, they also understand that while our body is our temple, life is about living. This is a great retreat for those who want to stretch, get fit, shed kilos and tone up, while also nurturing the mind-body balance.

The challenge

EW’s challenge was to try as many classes as possible in a month. While Dubai’s fitness scene has exploded over the last couple of years meaning there are now more sports, fitness and stretch clubs out there than there are hours in a month, Inspire is unique in that they offer both yoga and fitness classes – in both heated and regular rooms. Hot Sculpt, which does exactly what it says on the tin in that you workout in a hot room, fast became a favourite. Brilliant for both improving fitness levels and toning, the class incorporates a series of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) – that include challenging body weight exercises and optional hand weights for added power – along with weight training, yoga and pilates. It’s as tough as it sounds but worth every drop of sweat. Designed to complement your yoga practice, it’s ideal for those yogis out there looking to boost their endurance and strength.

We also love the pilates classes on offer  – great if you’re after a flatter, firmer stomach.

There’s enough variety here to ensure you can enjoy a different workout every day of the week – and you’re guaranteed to feel thoroughly worked out after every session. With fantastic facilities, including sparkling bathrooms and locker facilities, they also provide you with mats, clean towels, water and tea, meaning all you have to do is throw on your kit and turn up. The studio is also incredibly friendly so you don’t have to worry if you’re on your own.
