A new model for Emirati families wishing to adopt has been introduced in Abu Dhabi.
Last week, an announcement was made on International Adoption Day regarding couples being able to adopt children deprived of parental care in the UAE’s capital. The measures lay emphasis on how the UAE is focusing on being a more inclusive society.
Emirati couples now have an opportunity to expand their family, with this new adoption model aimed to enhance the quality of life for many.
Per the Khaleej Times, Dr. Bushra Al Mulla, executive director of the Community Development Sector explained: “An integrated system will be developed according to best international practices and standards to organize the process of adopting children of different ages deprived of parental care by providing necessary support to Emirati families for adopting them, especially children of determination, and those aged two and above.”

From start to finish, the process will involve careful care and support throughout the parents’ journey. After granting a temporary guardianship, close analysis will take place for the families to then potentially move on to the adoption option later.
No adoption process is easy alone. Hence, the support groups will give families the opportunities to meet and share their experiences together
Despite the challenges involved, the capital’s community stands together to enhance the widespread adoption measures, thereby improving the quality of life.
