As part of Emirates Woman’s series ‘In Discussion With….’, our Editor/Associate Publisher, Amy Sessions sat down with the brainchild behind the luxury brand – Maral Artinian, Founder of MARLI New York – to discuss the creative process at the helm of the jewellery brand, the flawless reflective qualities embodied in each piece and the Middle East’s expansion plans in terms of brick and mortar stores that are all set to open this year.

From brilliant-cut diamonds to incorporating colourful gemstones in each collection, centuries-old techniques have redefined beauty through innovation with every MARLI piece created through dedicated craftsmanship, as A-listers around the world from the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Scarlett Johansson to Heidi Klum who have been adorned in the brand’s luxurious pieces.

Having being inspired by New York’s incredible energy, Maral leveraged deep into her jewellery business with her exceptional eye for the finer things in life. As she hails from a family whose history in fine jewellery goes back a century, Maral infuses a minimal aesthetic throughout the brand by making each piece innately magnetic, by also attracting women in the region toward it.

With the industry evolving with women making more self-purchases, Maral found a gap in the market of having ‘women to women’ jewellery brands. Thus, MARLI New York was born.

“The simplicity in the design and how the customer wears the pieces, to associate MARLI with what can be worn from morning to evening, from red carpet events to your daily routine, making it something to incorporate in your style with a linear DNA,” she says.

Known for a series of colour variations, MARLI is known for their signature Cleo collection, being a pioneer in creating colourful timeless pieces, as the UAE and GCC follow a trend of incorporating pastel colours with their looks with rose gold.

Cleo by MARLI represents the rare sophistication of women with an array of colourful options that features signature pyramids set into lustrous 18k gold offering a bold empowering choice for the modern woman.

Harnessing the popularity of the brand here in the region, MARLI is set for a huge expansion in the GCC by the end of the year.

“Three stores are all set to open in the GCC by the end of 2021, one being in Abu Dhabi, the second in Saudi Arabia and the third in Qatar,” she reveals.

As for e-commerce, the brand first launched its online offering in 2018. Coincidentally, an entire revamp was done just one month before lockdown, which has led to a spur in growth on online sales.
