The Dubai-based airline also took home the award for Best Inflight Entertainment.

Emirates has been named among the world’s top airlines for 2018, at what is considered the Oscars of the aviation industry.

The Dubai-based airline was ranked fourth in the Skytrax World Airline Awards, which were announced in London this week. The results were based on a survey of more than 20 million travellers, who reviewed over 335 airlines between August 2017 and May 2018.

Singapore Airlines was named Airline of the Year, after claiming the prizes for best first class, best airline in Asia and best first class seat.

Emirates picked up the prize for the World’s Best Inflight Entertainment for the 14th year in a row, as well as an excellence award for best airline staff service in the Middle East.

“It’s an honour to be recognised by Skytrax for our commitment to innovation and service excellence,” said Patrick Brannelly, Emirates’ divisional vice president of customer experience.

“We always work hard to stay creative, relevant, and continue to build content that appeals to our multi-national and multi-cultural passengers.”

Emirates was the first airline to install TV screens on every seat in all classes throughout its fleet in 1992.

This is the second consecutive year Emirates has been ranked fourth in the prestigious awards. Abu Dhabi-based airline Etihad Airways also made the top 20, coming in at number 15.

Earlier this year, Emirates and Etihad were also named among the top 20 safest airlines in the world, in an annual ranking by AirlineRatings.com.
