‘Paramount importance’
Emirates is ensuring every precaution is taken to protect their passengers and crew amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
The Dubai airline has become the first airline to conduct on-site rapid COVID-19 tests for passengers, As of yesterday, passengers flying to Tunisia were all tested before departing from Dubai.
The tests were conducted in coordination with the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), and results are are available within 10 minutes.
According to the Emirates Chief Operation Officer, Adel Al Redha, the whole process “has gone smoothly” and he also thanked the DHA for “their initiatives and innovative solutions”.
“This would have not been possible without the support of Dubai Airport and other government authorities,” he said. “We are working on plans to scale up testing capabilities in the future and extend it to other flights, this will enable us to conduct on-site tests and provide immediate confirmation for Emirates passengers travelling to countries that require COVID-19 test certificates.
“The health and safety of staff and passengers at the airport remain of paramount importance.”
As part of other precautions being taken by Emirates, the airline’s check-in and boarding processes have also been altered with barriers added to check-in desks. Similarly, all employees are required to wear masks and gloves, and passengers must wear masks when in the airport and on-board flights. There are also currently no magazines or print material available, and food and beverage services have been altered to minimise interactions.
The airline is currently offering limited flights from Dubai to London, Frankfurt, Tunis, Jakarta, Chicago, Taipei, Algiers, Manila and Kabul, in order to enable residents and visitors to return to their home countries.
