After yet another successful season, Emily in Paris has been renewed for season 5 by Netflix. Lily Collins shared the news on Instagram, while cheekily sipping on a cup of Italian espresso (obviously), hinting on the direction of where the storyline is headed.

Season 4 ended on yet another cliffhanger about Emily’s love life, but this time, she’s in Rome. let’s breakdown the last installment, shall we?

If you’ve already watched the 4th season of Emily in Paris, let’s address the most important question — are you team Gabriel or team Marcelo?

Everyone’s favourite American-in-Paris, Emily, played by Lily Collins returned with the show’s 4th season last month. The second half of the season dropped last week and let’s just say, the drama in her rollercoaster life continued to keep us hooked.

The season began with the golden confusion that has now become a redundant — will Emily and Gabriel get together? Spoiler alert: they do. But, to everyone’s disappointment, the couple barely makes it out of their honeymoon phase, before calling it quits on the icy French slopes. Reason? Mademoiselle Camille (how original) and an apparent fake pregnancy.

The will-they-wont they trope between Emily and Gabrielle was stretched for so long, that eventually when they did get together, the chemistry didn’t live up to the amplified hype. Which is why, when a new man was introduced in Emily’s life (sorry, Alife), minutes before the anti-climatic breakup with the resident hot chef, it felt like a welcoming pivot in the story.

The second half of the season gave us a new internet boyfriend to crush on. Eugenio Franceschini, the Italian actor was roped in to play the part of Marcello Muratori. A refreshing departure from the French and the British hottie, Marcello came in guns blazing for Emily’s heart — the Loro-Piana-style-quiet-lxuury-Italian-old-money story line that he was given also helped.

Whisking her away to Rome and showing her the city on his classic Italian vespa earned him the brownie points amongst the ladies.

On the work front, Emily continued being the character that saves the day — all while intermingling it with her already complicated love life. Picture this: Her French ex (Gabriel) is still an existing client, Her British ex (Alfie) works with one of Agence Grateau’s clients, and her soon to be next, Italian fashion Mogul (Marcello), will also be joining the roster.

With the Muratori’s giving their precious brand to Agence Grateau for revival, Emily has both work and play tying her down to Rome. The season ends for Emily with a new apartment, a new city and a new man — a serious déjà vu to the pilot episode.

What happens next? Well, that should all unfold in season 5. Until then, au revoir, or, should we now say arrivederci? *wink wink.*
