el bulli

Although it was merely a small restaurant, albeit with three Michelin stars, tucked away in the a tiny bay on Catalonia’s Costa Brava, yet El Bulli was the most famous restaurant in the whole of Spain. To get a table there was akin to winning the lottery – it would receive over one million reservations a year. Sadly, the iconic restaurant closed in July 2011, yet bringing some of Chef Ferran Adria’s famous flavours to Dubai is El Sur.

Every Monday, throughout the month of June, El Sur will be offering a  ‘tribute’ to El Bulli with El Sur’s Chef Juan Carlos offering a tapas menu inspired by Chef Adria.

Our verdict: While we had to wait an age for the food to arrive, when it did our tastebuds had a fiesta. Be warned, service here is incredibly slow so take that into account if making plans for the rest of the evening. There are only three dishes on the menu that are inspired by El Bulli: liquid ham croquets, Spanish omelettes and Kellogg’s paella. Portions are small so if you have a hearty appetite you may need to order a large variety of dishes.
