Have you made plans yet?

With only a week left of Ramadan, we are preparing for what is shaping up to be one of the longest weekends: Eid Al Fitr. So if you are wondering how long will the holiday be, rest assured that you will be getting multiple days off, as the UAE Government has announced the holidays for the public and private sector.

If you are part of the public sector, get ready to sign off on Thursday, as you will be enjoying nine days off on the occasion of Eid Al Fitr. The UAE Government’s official Instagram account sent out a tweet, confirming that the Eid holiday for the public sector will begin on Sunday June 2, with work resuming on Sunday June 9.

This announcement means that public sector employees will finish work on Thursday, and then go on to enjoy nine days off. Earlier this year, the UAE Cabinet released a new law, unifying the number of holidays for public and private sector workers, with the decree giving both sectors a total of 14 public holiday days off per year. However, it doesn’t seem like both sectors will be getting the same days off for this occasion.

Nevertheless, this doesn’t mean that the private sector will not enjoy their own long weekend. It is reported that the holidays for those in the private sector will begin from Monday June 3 (Ramadan 29) until Shawwal 3, according to a circular from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. This was first announced by Gulf News, but hasn’t been confirmed on any official social media accounts yet.

Eid falls on the 1st day of Shawwal which depends on moon-sighting – this will be either June 4 or June 5. Either way, for those that typically work Sunday to Thursday, work will resume on Sunday June 9.

Eid Mubarak!
