Because I spent the festive season behind my desk, I thought it high time to take a trip, get out of the city and start the New Year on the right note.

I am guilty of taking Dubai for granted, but if there is one place (the only place) to go to remind you of this amazing place we live in, it’s Qasr Al Sarab. The most beautiful oasis you can imagine – just a hop, skip and sandy drive from Dubai – will see you relaxed the minute you step through its grand doors…

Even though it was a little cloudy out there in the desert, there was still our ‘Sunshine Butler’ to look after us poolside.

In addition to the hotel being breathtakingly beautiful, one of the most impressive things is the array of original artefacts and antiques that line its walls and corridors…

If lazing by the pool all day or spending it in the spa is not for you, the list of activities is endless. Archery, horse riding, dune bashing and camel rides, which I chose, at sunrise – amazing.

Followed by fresh fruit, coffee and croissants – what a way to start the day.

We had a bit of wind on day two, so what better way to laze the day away than with a board game. This is my Scrabble face (not my prettiest).

All good things have to come to an end, and it was time for one last sunset for me and then back to the real world.
