Whether it’s a gift idea or a personal treat, a striking piece of jewellery has an incredible ability to enhance any outfit. However, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by a sheer number of options, so we have decided to focus on contemporary brands that are doing something a little different.
If you’re not sure where to begin, we’ve done the hard work for you and picked out three key pieces from each designer to get you started on your own glittering collection.

When the daughter of a diamond dealer, Valérie Messika, launched her jewellery brand, she wanted to focus only on diamonds and break the traditional codes of jewellery making. She mixed different diamond shapes and sized together, created unusual silhouettes and eventually started to blend diamonds with colourful semi-precious stones, and even wood. Loved by the likes of Beyoncé and Hailey Beiber, Messika delivers everyday, modern and wearable jewellery.
If you’re into bold statement pieces, then Anita Ko is for you. Born and raised in Los Angeles, she focuses mainly on giving diamonds and emeralds a contemporary edge. With Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and January Jones as firm fans, the brand has struck a chord with those who want their jewellery to make them feel fierce and unique every day.
Suzanne Kalan was one of the first designers to introduce colourful stones into the world of fine jewellery. Now she is known for her ‘Fireworks’ pieces that smash together diamonds, sapphires and emeralds. Unlike certain jewellery brands that you reserve for special occasions, Kalan’s striking creations are made to be worn whenever or wherever you want.
Lebanese designer Selim Mouzannar transports emotions inspired by nature into his creations. He brings his love for Art Deco and Ottoman architecture to his unique creations that are frequently inspired by the ocean, stars and open air. Mainly working with a colourful array of gems that are rose-cut to enhance their radiance and create a warm glow, his elaborate star-shaped pendants and floral drop earrings catch the eye and leave a lasting impression.
