As business in Dubai is gradually returning to normal, new protocols have been announced for salons and barber shops in Dubai, per directives from the Dubai Economy.

When salons first reopened, they were only permitted to operate at 30 per cent capacity along with selected treatments which involved minimal contact.

However, in the new directive all services and treatments are now permitted apart from spa, sauna, hammam and massage treatments. Similarly, the capacity of establishments has increased to 50 per cent.

Despite the relaxing in protocols, social distancing and health and safety measures must be upheld including face masks to be worn by employees and customers alike; running on an appointment only system; and distances of two metres kept between each station.

In addition, no customers can wait in waiting areas, and it is encouraged that their hands be washed before and after treatments.

For establishments found not adhering to the guidelines put in place, penalties will be implemented. These rules are in place until further notice.
