Give your skin a break this summer and instead bring the focus to the eyes with a pop of neon orange.

Sounds extreme? We are not talking about covering the whole lid in this zesty hue, but just adding a cheeky hint like we saw on the Versace SS20 runway. Not only does this shade work well with all complexions and eye colours, but it also elevates the natural sun-kissed glow of your skin.

Manuel Losada has been the go-to makeup artist in Dubai for every magazine worth knowing as well as leading brands. What began as his fascination with seeing his mother transform with the power of makeup has turned into a star-studded career, working with international stars such as Paris Hilton and Ashley Graham – both shot for Emirates Woman.

“Every woman is different and what I have learned is to create something that makes the person happy. There are no rules in makeup and the women have taught me that,” he explains. “Break boundaries, try to innovate, think outside the box. There are tips and tricks that your learn doing, not at makeup school.”

Below he shares a step-by-step guide to nailing that fierce Versace beauty look this summer.

The prep

For this look I will recommend prepping the lids with a good eye shadow primer – I love NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eye Shadow Base. Then go in with a shimmery long-wear cream eyeshadow in a golden hue. The creamy texture is easy to apply and the subtle shine will further enhance the neon line.

Time for colour

Choose your neon pencil – Marc Jacobs Beauty has a range of smudge-proof eye pencils in a wide spectrum of colours. Start by drawing a line along your crease from the inner corner all the way to the end of your crease. If you don’t have a defined crease, use the lash line as a guide.

Blend, blend, blend

With the help of a round fluffy small blending brush go back and forth over the line to soften it Apply a bit of more colour straight from the pencil onto the brush so you don’t lose intensity, this will help to fill the crease and add thickness at the same time.

Finishing touches

Define the lash line with a liquid eyeliner or a kohl eye pencil – my favourite is Chanel Stylo Yeux #88 in Noir Intense. Keep it thick and stop at three quarters along the lash line. Add a pair of false lashes for extra drama.

The rest

Keep the skin fresh, concealing any imperfections and then add some gloss to the lips such as the Dior Lip Maximizer in 001.
