This might have been our favourite show of Dubai Shopping Festival so far.
Well, OK, there was Jessie J’s free concert at the Mall of the Emirates… and Kim Kardashian’s makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic hosted a Q&A session at the Dubai Mall.
Our point is that this year’s DSF is a good ‘un.
However this one-off catwalk show certainly makes our highlight reel of the month-long shopping affair.
Local boutique S*uce held a fashion show on January 21 to parade some new-season designs, but it didn’t choose to set up the runway in one of the city’s sprawling malls.
Instead the retailer chose the steeped-in-tradition alleyways of the Dubai Gold Souk to showcase collections from regional and international designers.
Models donned brands including All Things Mochi, Zayan the Label, Sea NY and Hafsa Lodi, before sashaying through packed tables under the fairy lights.
It was the third of DSF’s Street Runway shows, with the others taking place in THE BEACH JBR and City Walk.
The Deira edition had a “twist in time” theme, which drew inspiration from the old cafes in black-and-white Egyptian movies (hence the quaint outdoor seating).
Think pom-pom headscarfs, stilettos dripping in bronzed medallions, oversized ruffles, and tiered flowing skirts.
(We’re particularly taken with the sequinned boiler suit seen near the top of this article).
DSF’s final Street Runway will be held at City Walk on January 25, and if this one’s anything to go by, it’s probably worth popping down…
