Expect Jean Paul Gaultier, Roberto Cavalli, and the Russian Ballet.

Saudi Arabia’s first fashion week will take place in mid-April, not March as was originally planned.

Riyadh Arab Fashion Week, the Kingdom’s first, will now run from April 10-14. Previously, dates of March 25-31 had been advertised.

A full schedule is now available on the event’s website, and includes trunk shows from international names like Jean Paul Gaultier and Roberto Cavalli.

In another first, the last day will include two performances from the Russian Ballet.

Local labels like Reem Kanhal and Aram Designs are on the schedule, and Aiisha Ramadan will ensure the UAE has a presence.

The new schedule comes as news arrives that after a seven-year hiatus, Dubai Fashion Week is set to run again in 2018.

The three-day affair will take over Palazzo Versace Dubai from April 26-28. Fashion fans can expect ready-to-wear and couture from Kuwait, Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, as well as the United Arab Emirates.

Held under the patronage of Sheikha Hend Bint Faisal Al Qassemi, who’s also a board member at Dubai Fashion and Design College, this new iteration of Dubai Fashion Week aims to operate at the very top of the international industry.

“We aim to put Dubai Fashion Week on the list of the world’s largest fashion events as well as events held in New York, London, Milan and Paris,” Sheikha Hend explained.

“Our aim is also to make it a regular event on the calendar of all fashion creators.”

Designers from the Middle East will be joined by big names from Europe and North and South America, Sheikha Hend added. The last edition of Dubai Fashion Week was held in 2011.
