One to watch

Since the beginning of this month, we have seen a number of Dubai residents posting their workout selfies wearing a fitness brand that features an eye-catching green logo tag. Naturally we had to investigate.

Minimalist, modern with an off-white edge, The Giving Movement is a Dubai-based athleisure label that puts sustainability and ethical practices at the core of the brand.

The pieces are made right here in the UAE from their own certified sustainable fabrics. Activewear is developed from recycled water bottles, while bamboo (that has similar properties to cotton) is used across casual and loungewear pieces. Their approach extends to packaging which is made from plant starch and is also reusable.

The brand launched this month with 40 styles across nine seasonal colours and the selection includes vests, T-shirts, hoodies and jumpers as well as an activewear hijab and a skirt to be worn over leggings. There is also a looser fit ‘tech pant’ as an alternative to leggings, quilted jackets and on-trend chunky sneakers.

Being ethical means being transparent and The Giving Movement had chosen to produce in limited quantities with each piece labelled with the number in the series.

The UAE factory is also certified and pays living wages, provides fair working hours and safe conditions, allows unionisation and uses no forced or child labour.

In addition, the brand is partnering with the local independent non-profit organisation, Harmony House, and UAE-based global philanthropic organisation, Dubai Cares.  Proceeds from every sale will be donated to fund projects that are dedicated to improving lives on a physical, emotional and intellectual level by providing free education, food, clothing and medical care to under-privileged children.
