Sparkling duet
Dreaming of Paris? While air travel is temporary on hold, couturier Rami Al Ali is offering a visual escape to the city of lights, with the help of jewellery house Messika.
Photographed by Elvina Abdulina, the breathtaking imagery were captured in the quintessentially Parisian Hotel Le Meurice. The idyllic setting overlooks the majestic garden of Tuileries and the ancient Palace of the Louvre.
Some of the glittering pieces created by jewellery designer Valerie Messika were paired with key silhouettes from Rami’s SS20 couture collection, inspired by the one of the most beautiful and unique flowers – an orchid.
“It has always been my dream to work in the Couture world as it is one of my main sources of inspiration, especially when I design High Jewellery. Rami Al Ali designs beautiful gowns and this shoot shows the beautiful marriage between couture fashion and jewellery,” said Valerie.
The collections Pantone of colour is wildly exotic, vivid bursts of lime green, turquoise, coral and rose. Traces of translucent shimmer can be credited to the subtle inclusion of gold accents. Meticulous beadwork reveals the makings of a seasoned artisan, the first display mimicking the orchid’s silhouette, the second highlighting texture. Thoughtful bead clusters add a 3D effect, illustrating a likeness to droplets of dew on a petal.
Luxurious fabrics are gathered on an array of structured and softer lines with tulle, organza, muslin, mikado and silk-satin imitating the organic fluidity associated with the orchid. New high-tech engineering was adopted with laser cut fabric arranged in a tessellated pattern to uniquely illustrate a beautiful floral motif on the skirt.
“It was a joy to work with such an iconic brand that I’ve admired for many years. I look forward to working even more closely with the brand in the future,” added Al Ali.
