‘With a heavy heart’
Luxury fashion brand The Modist has announced its closure three years after its launch in 2017.
In a statement issued to their Instagram page, the Dubai-based e-commerce brand revealed their business had taken a significant hit due to the global coronavirus pandemic.
“It is with a heavy heart we share with you that The Modist is permanently closing its virtual doors today,” reads the Instagram post.
“After three incredible years of creating a global business and platform that empower women, celebrates their choices and breaks stereotypes, we regret to inform you that the global crisis has hit the world and left our young business vulnerable with no option but to cease operating.”
Founded by CEO, Ghizlan Guenez, the aim of the brand was to help those who wanted to dress modestly a one-stop-shop, giving luxury options to women globally.
She also posted the statement to her own Instagram adding, that while The Modist’s “plans and position were quite different only weeks ago, the global pandemic crisis that hit the world shifted our position entirely”.
“There aren’t enough words to describe how inspiring our community of women (and men) has been,” she added. “I truly hope that this community continues the conversation on important values and that players in the fashion industry and beyond continue to carry the flag of what is important: inclusion, innovation, diversity, sustainability and all the other topics that are relevant today more than ever.
“I want to thank each and every person who touched our journey no matter how small or large their contribution to The Modist was.”
We’re so sad to see The Modist close and EW looks forward to supporting Ghizlan’s next venture.
