Free parking on Fridays in Dubai is now a thing of the past.
Following the change in the working days in the UAE, which was implemented in the UAE at the beginning of the year, public parking remained free. However, this is no longer the case per a directive from the Dubai Government.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai issued an amendment to clauses of Executive Council Resolution No. (5) of 2016 with the Executive Council Resolution No. (18) of 2022, which pertains to the regulations surrounding public parking in the emirate.

Public parking will now be free of charge on Sundays and public holidays, per the directive. As for multi-storey parking garages, fees will be applicable for usage, seven days a week.
UAE’s change of working week
This change comes three months after the UAE adopted a change of working week.
As of January 1, 2022, the country has transitioned to a new model with Saturday and Sunday now forming the weekend days. Previously weekend days were Fridays and Saturdays.
Last year, the UAE Government Media Office announced the working week would be a four-and-a-half day working week for Federal Government employees with hours from Monday to Thursday being from 7.30am to 3.30pm. Meanwhile, on Fridays, employees will work for 4.5 hours with the flexibility to be able to work from home.
