Inspired by the oldest known Visconti-Sforza tarot cards from the 15th century, the Dior Spring/Summer 2021 Haute couture collection was displayed through a short film entitled Le Château du Tarot directed by the renowned Italian filmmaker Matteo Garrone as part of the virtual Paris Haute Couture Week.

In the latest couture collection, Dior’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri taps into the Maison’s history portrayed with a palette of dusty jewel tones and old gold in a universe which Monsieur Dior loved deeply.

The virtuoso constructions invite the viewer to look at the world from a new perspective, as a series of extraordinary gowns which are punctuated with illustrations by Pietro Ruffo while being shot in a castle in Tuscany to depict that ethereal element with a magical touch.

Beginning with a clairvoyant shuffling a deck of cards, the film portrays a beautiful spiritual journey of self-discovery where the woman enters a magical world and meets 15 Visconti-Sforza tarots in a mysterious castle for an unforgettable experience which unravels through the film.

As the Old Masters painting came to life, the sweeping silhouettes and dramatic capes are displayed in this rich luscious collection symbolic of the pluralistic beauty emulated through the tarot cards. The art of weaving is beautifully captured through the lace inlaid with hand-painted embellishments, golden velvet enlivened with signs of the zodiac and precious jacquards sprinkled with stars , while the cape in multicoloured features showcases 3D volumes, all of which is reinterpreted to express a new attitude.

Celebrating magic and a universe of divinatory arts, Garrone effortlessly presents these dream inducing evening wear pieces through a classic fashion film.
