It was a dazzling evening.
Last night, designer Maria Grazia Chiuri brought her Dior circus to Dubai’s Safa Park to present the SS19 Haute Couture collection.

It was the first show the Maison has ever held in the sandy city and it was an extravagant evening of the finest craftsmanship and a buzzing after party. Here are some things you might have missed.
The Set
Coming all the way from the French capital, the circus tent erected just through Gate 2 at Safa Park is the same one that show attendees sat in during the couture season in Paris earlier this year. With the glistening Dubai skyline in the background, the tent had a vintage feel and once inside, the audience were seated in a central circle with more seating extended through the space. Right after the show, the second half of the tent opened up to reveal the after party.

The Clothes
Dior flew in all the couture looks including the shimmering swim caps and gowns that took hours to make. Some of the standouts include the ringmaster blazers, sheer shirting, sequin jumpsuits and rompers and glittering tights worthy of the Britney Spears ‘Toxic’ music video. We also noted the 15 entirely new pieces designed for the show to appeal to the Arab Gulf-based audience – including the dress pictured above.
The Makeup
Maria Grazia Chiuri wouldn’t go anywhere without Peter Philips – creative and image director of Christian Dior Makeup. Picking up from the circus theme and reworking the look that we saw in Paris, all of the models had slick pony tails, glowing complexion and rosy lips leaving the emphasis on the black-lined eyes inspired by the punk culture and Pierrot clowns.

The Frow
As well as the editors of leading local publication, international guests and friends of the brand, we saw other familiar faces on the front row including the Modist founder Ghizlan Guenez, TV presenter and journalist Diala Makki in the company of her fluffy dog, Turkish-German actress Meryem Uzerlimeryem and Karen Wazen who took over the Dior Instastories.

The After Party
Once Chiuri took her bow and a cannon of gold confetti descended on the stylish crowd, the extended space opened up to reveal circus performers balancing on maxi balls and unicycles. There was also a sweets stand featuring macaron’s and cakes as well as a bar area. The DJ spun tunes under the Dior Parade neon lights as guests danced the night away.
Can we do it all again please?
