Summer is packed with sweet and wonderful indulgences that should be enjoyed, however it is easy to fall short of your fitness goals and that’s why we are taking a closer look at Kourtney Kardashian’s diet plan to keep us on track.

The reality TV star has recently shared on her wellbeing website Poosh that she’ll be following the keto diet for the next month. “My body never looked better than when I did the keto diet two and half years ago, when I did it for two months. In my experience, I’ve found the best method to train my body to curb sugar cravings, burn fat, and kick-start weight loss is by sticking to a keto diet,” she explains.

Keto is short for “ketosis,” a metabolic state that happens when your body switches from burning carbs to burning fat. For the next few weeks she will be following a meal plan that focuses on high-fat, high-protein, and low-carb.

“My doctor actually put me on the keto diet a couple of years ago for a metal detox. He tested my muscles and found that I had high levels of mercury and lead in my system. He let me know that one of the fastest ways to detox was to keep my body in a state of ketosis. I would check my blood sugar and ketone levels every morning to make sure I was on track,” she writes.

Ever body is different, so she advises consulting your doctor before starting your keto journey. For her, it means avocado smoothie with MCT oil, bone broth powder and blue-green algae for breakfast. For lunch she will be tucking into a chef salad with turkey, mixed greens and egg whites for lunch and for dinner, and for dinner she has chicken or salmon with cauliflower or broccoli rice.
