As Delphine Restaurant & Bar makes the transition to the UAE, Emirates Woman finds out whether it lives up to its LA sister’s illustrious reputation.
Décor
Art Decor meets up-scale Californian brasserie. Decadent chandeliers, heavy curtains (to separate it from the the hotel lobby) and plush sofas make it all very glam Hollywood.
Ambience
The chic setting is somewhat let down by the fact it is located on the periphery of the lobby. Despite the opulent attempt to distance itself from the usual lobby-restaurant vibe, the live saxophone and guitar entertainment somewhat let it down.
Food
Don’t be fooled by the simple options on the menu. Melon & serrano ham and ahi tuna may sound like old-fashioned dishes but the flavours are far from bland. Try the recommended spinach and artichoke dip with the complimentary crispy, fresh bread.
Ahi Tuna
The dry-aged New York strip loin cooked in herb butter, and served with truffle cheese fries, is the signature main, however when eliminating the dairy (due to my intolerances) the steak was too dry. The chips were still very delicious and very chunky.
Almond Cake
The dessert is where it comes into its own. The selection is impressive, ranging from lemon tart to lime cheesecake, almond cake, espresso parfait and chocolate indulgence. The latter, which is sublime, consists of chocolate popcorn flourless cake and profiteroles.
Why Bother
The dessert list is worth shifting through – trying each and every one.
Go For
Post-work drinks. The wine list is impressive.
