David Beckham

It seems Victoria Beckham’s recent run of success has inspired her husband David Beckham to follow in her footsteps and try his hand as a designer.

The Beckham family have been hot news in the fashion industry this year. From Brooklyn Beckham landing a cover spot on Man About Town to Romeo Beckham fronting Burberry’s festive campaign and Victoria Beckham’s many accolades she was recently named by Business magazine Management Today as Britain’s top entrepreneur, and also won Best Brand at the British Fashion Awards – the recognition has had a positive effect on David Beckham.

The former professional footballer is said to be working on his own fashion label with the help of Simon Fuller, who not only helped launch Victoria’s fashion career but also made David the face, and partner, of new Whiskey brand Haig Club  (the advert for the drink was directed by Guy Ritchie and starred David Beckham – celebrity endorsement at it’s strongest).

David has signed a deal with Global Brands, which also distributes for labels like Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein. Though rather than foucs on one label it seems David and Simon have their sights set on launching a multi-faceted lifestyle brand.

“We won’t be building just one brand. Creating a sportswear or underwear line with David would be great but we want to do more,” said Global Brands chief executive Bruce Rockowitz.

According to Global Brands, the decision to work with the pair was simple what with David’s “star power and status as one of the world’s most famous sports and style icons,” and Fuller’s “deep understanding of consumers, talent, and sports and entertainment rights.”

This isn’t David’s first foray into fashion, he has previously worked with Belstaff, Emporio Armani and H&M (remember that advert ladies?)

Fans of ‘David Beckham the footballer’ needn’t fear too much, he has plans to  bring a Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise to Miami. “Miami is still David’s number one choice and it will happen,” said a spokesman for investment group Miami Beckham United. “The fans and the people of Miami are behind us and we hope to announce some positive and exciting news soon.”

It seems world domination in the 2015 to-do list for the Beckhams!
