As social media platform TikTok has blown up over the last 12 months, it’s also meant trends and people can go instantly viral.
The latest one making the rounds on the video-sharing platform is a beauty trend we never thought we’d see. Apparently, under-eye bags are now something to embrace and are perhaps even cool.
While many of us are constantly thinking of ways to hide the imprint of those sleepless nights under our eyes, this makeup technique is telling us the reverse by enhancing those purple-ish tones to enhance that tired look.
It all started with TikTok user Sara-Marie Carstens who decided to make dark circles a standout trend on social media. Posting a video showing her audience how she creates the appearance of dark circles under her eyes, she uses a lip crayon or lipstick.
This video has now been viewed over more than 6.8 million times. Without having the intention of starting a beauty trend, she posted the clip on her page making the usual lip-sync videos, as she says “I basically wanted to show everyone how ‘cool’ dark circles can look.”

Other TikTok content creators such as Danielle Marcan and many more have also been inspired by Carstens to create their version of the trend as she also commented on the video saying “hope this helped you find beauty in your insecurities”.

As different creators loved the idea of being able to define their imperfections, the new generation might just be able to skip the concealer more often now as full-coverage makeup might just be a thing of the past.
