Yay for inclusivity!

CoverGirl is a beauty brand known for making great efforts to represent all kinds of women in their campaigns – and their latest appointment is no different.

The makeup company has previously employed stars such as Ellen DeGeneres, Queen Latifah and teenage cancer sufferer Talia Castellano as ambassadors.

And their latest one? US-based makeup artist Nura Afia, a Muslim blogger famed for wearing her hijab in video tutorials.

Afia frequently experiments with the traditional dress in her content, teaching viewers how to tie a variety of turbans, as well as perfecting a range of makeup looks.

Now the 23-year-old will front a campaign for CoverGirl’s So Lashy! BlastPro Mascara, meaning she’ll appear in billboards and TV commericals all across America.

Afia, who has more than 210,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel, says she can hardly believe the groundbreaking appointment.

“It feels so surreal,” she told Glamour magazine. “I never thought I would see Muslim women represented on such a large scale.”

The mum-of-one, who’s of Lebanese, Morrocan and Swiss descent, will join Katy Perry and Sofia Vergara in the campaign to promote “Lash Equality”.

“I [grew] up being insecure about wearing the hijab, [and] I never thought I would see Muslim women represented on such a large scale,” she told Refinery29.

“I hope [this campaign] will show Muslim women that brands care about us as consumers and we’re important, especially hijabis. [We] can be featured on TV, [we] can be featured on billboards in Times Square. [We] can be represented.

“I’m doing this because I want there to be a time when my daughter grows up when she knows she can be anything she wants to be. It doesn’t matter what her beliefs are or what she looks like.”

She later thanked her fans for helping her land the campaign.

“This all happened because of you guys,” Afia posted on Instagram. “Thank you for always supporting me and for being a part of my journey. Thank you to all of you guys who’ve always believed in me and everything that I do.”
