Marvel’s boss says the Hollywood studio is looking at making a Ms Marvel movie in the future.

It’s a franchise that has gone from strength to strength in the last 10 years, from 2008’s Iron Man to 2018’s record-breakers Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War.

And moviegoers might be treated to a new superhero joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, according to a studio big-wig.

Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, has hinted that the film company are looking at bringing Muslim heroine Ms Marvel to the big screen, following the success of female-led superhero flicks such as 2017’s Wonder Woman.

In an interview with the BBC, Feige suggested a film focused on teen Kamala Khan could be the studio’s next project after the upcoming Captain Marvel, which is scheduled to be released in 2019.

Captain Marvel‘s shooting right now with Brie Larson,” Feige said.

“Ms. Marvel, which is another character in the comic books, the Muslim hero who is inspired by Captain Marvel, is definitely sort of in the works. We have plans for that once we’ve introduced Captain Marvel to the world.”

Ms Marvel, who has been billed as the first female Muslim superhero, is the creation of writer and editor Sana Amanat.

The Pakistani-American comic book star was inspired to come up with the character after observing a lack of diversity in her New Jersey hometown while growing up.

The news of Ms Marvel’s possible starring role in her own film was met with widespread praise on social media, with many commending the studio for representing young Muslim girls on screen.
