The convention, which celebrates the superstars of social media including YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, made a statement on their official website confirming the news to delay the event citing “global health risks” as the reason for the “difficult decision”.

“VidCon is SO excited to bring our vibrant, fun and educational celebration of online video to Abu Dhabi for the first time,” the statement from VidCon’s general manager, Jim Louderback, read.

“However, our number one priority is always the safety and health of our attendees, sponsors, speakers, creators and staff.

“In light of the recent precautions taken worldwide to manage the current global health risks, we have made the difficult decision to postpone VidCon Abu Dhabi to December 16  19, 2020.”

It was confirmed on the website ticket holders would be entitled to full refunds due to the change, or if they decided to hold on to their tickets for the postponed event in December they would receive an additional free ticket for a friend”. Those who are ticket holders would receiving an email with all “possible options”.

Confirmed guests for VidCon Abu Dhabi included Huda Kattan and Mona Kattan; social media star Brent Rivera; local YouTube stars Rawan and Rayan, who have a following of over six million; YouTuber Naz, with a following of over eight million; beauty influencer Michelle Dy; and more.

However, it has not yet been confirmed if the same stars will be attending due to the date change. Emirates Woman has reached out to VidCon for comment.
