Lebanese fashion label Aboud Jammal is one to watch.

The eponymous fashion brand, which launched six years ago, by designer Aboud Jammal recently debuted its latest collection entitled ‘Spectrum’ at Arab Fashion Week FW22 in Dubai. It marks the first ready-to-wear collection for the Arab brand.

Free-spirited Jammal has always been creative and particularly fascinated by women’s fashion taking inspiration “from the outside world”, he recalls in an interview with Emirates Woman.

“Specific designs, styles and patterns resonate with my style,” he adds, which is particularly prevalent in his latest collection.

Streamlined silhouettes, tassels and monochromatic hues took centre stage for Spectrum’s unveiling, highlighting movement as a key factor in the collection, showcasing unique eveningwear garments.

EW sat down with the designer to discover more about his passion for creativity and how he is platforming the Arab fashion world on a global stage.

What inspired you to enter the world of fashion?

I have always been free-spirited, fascinated by art, and motivated by the beauty around me. I have always been passionate about fashion and colours from a very early age. I explored my love of sketching and creating designs, though I grew up in a home of law practitioners, with the full support of my family, I started fashion design studies in Esmod Beirut. My inspiration comes from the outside world, there is an abundance of culture to be discovered from nature. The awe factor in nature inspires creativity in designing, encompassing personality, colour and variety. Specific designs, styles and patterns resonate with my style.

You recently debuted your latest collection at Arab Fashion Week in Dubai – what was this like and what has the reception been?

It is important for fashion brands to follow the seasons, being part of the fashion calendar has been an honour. Showcasing Aboud Jammal’s first ready to wear collection was a great success in Dubai.

Can you talk us through the inspiration for your latest collection?

From the Latin origin spectre: meaning to look to be held, for FW22/23, the Aboud Jammal woman basks in the light of attention, and revels in the assertion of her poise. Pronounced in the hues of warmly bold dyes our woman marches to the beat of her drum, a dream-like spectre in diaphanous adornment, unattainable until she decides. Conventionally casual archetypes collide with the allure and materiality of evening wear where traditional embroideries are discarded, and emphasis is bestowed upon the purity of the silhouette, the colour tones and the spontaneous movement of the fabrics, in a streamlined attire, the Aboud Jammal woman is in control but underneath the fringe, a poetic vivacity lies, exclusive for a selected few to witness.

How do you hope to empower people wearing your designs?

At Aboud Jammal, we continually pursue excellence and the very best in design and craftsmanship striving to set new standards of quality by fusing tradition and modern luxury, we create products that remain true to the values of the brand that confirm our absolute commitment to providing the highest levels of quality that allow us to set the tone of the newest trends. Our brand encompasses a blend of strong femininity refined glamour, elevated elegance and timelessness in its appeal. Our designs are designed for the contemporary woman, with a timelessly elegant style.

You founded your couture house back in 2016 – how have things evolved for you over the last six years?

Creating Aboud Jammal has been the proudest moment in my life. It was not an easy path to walk in, mainly because I have been the only person managing the brand at the time. I had to learn from my own mistakes, to improve the management of the brand. Every day I evolve, I learn new technics, and I pursue excellence and the very best in designs to thrive.

Throughout your career, what have been the challenges you have had to overcome?

As an ambitious designer, who strives to achieve excellence, reach high goals, and become an internationally recognized fashion house, starting a business in Lebanon has been very challenging, due to the political and economic crisis that affects the stability and the consistency of our work.

Meanwhile, what have been the milestones?

Being one of the few youngest fashion designers in Lebanon, and winning the Beirut Young Fashion Designers B.Y.F.D first prize, which was a huge cornerstone towards creating Aboud Jammal Fashion House. Hereafter, launching my first couture collection at the Forum De Beirut in 2016, being the only Lebanese designer at La Fete De La Mode in Tunis, was a great success. Showcasing my spring-summer 2021, couture collection, through a presentation on the official events calendar of Paris Fashion Week, was a huge milestone for the brand. Showcasing our first RTW Womenswear Fall-Winter 2022-2023 collection at Arab Fashion Week in Dubai.

How do you hope to further put Arab fashion on the map with your brand?

To become an internationally recognized fashion house, Aboud Jammal is an Arab born brand, However, our clientele is from different parts of the world, not just the MENA region. We will continue to showcase our seasonal collections in Dubai at Arab Fashion Week and focus on our core message, making women feel in control, and dominant, she will conquer the world while feeling timelessly elegant when wearing Aboud Jammal.

What’s next for Aboud Jammal?

Aboud Jammal has always showcased couture. Recently, in Dubai, we launched our first ready-to-wear for women, where we have also started our bags and shoe line. Our expectations for the future consist in expanding the brand.
