Shoe designer extraordinaire Charlotte Olympia shares her artistic influences, stimulations and gummi bears.
“ I recently opened my store on Rodeo Drive in LA. While there I visited the Hollywood Museum in the Max Factor Building. I love the Art Deco style of the building itself and the original Max Factor make-up rooms.”
“The essence of the brand comes from my love of Old Hollywood glamour. I’m in love with movie stars and pin-ups from the 1940s and 1950s – Rita Hayworth is my favourite.”
“I’m inspired by so many things from my surroundings, as well as imagery, movies and people.”
“I can’t wait to see the Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs exhibition at the Tate Modern, London. I’ve always loved the Blue Nudes.”
“ I love a broad range of artists from Kees van Dongen to Francis Picabia and Louise Bourgeois. I also have a love for fashion photography and recently bought a Guy Bourdin photograph to add to my collection.”
“My designs are colourful and always feminine with a touch of humour. I’m especially nostalgic and try to create a mood and feeling for each collection, which manifests itself in particular colours, textures, materials and the fun names I give the shoes and bags.”
