Welcome to Villa Chanel
While the snow covered the streets of Paris, the inside of the Grand Palais, where Chanel displayed their Spring 2019 couture collection was the embodiment of summer. The French luxury fashion house presented their latest collection during Paris haute couture week.
Chanel took their guests on a journey, as their stunning setting resembled the South of France, with its palm trees, pool, lifeguards, and beach – which had real sand!
This show was like no other, as the fashion house’s creative director, Karl Lagerfeld, did not come out for the final bow. Instead, Virginie Viard, his right hand stood in for him. Even though he didn’t make an appearance, Karl’s influence was evident in every piece of the collection, which drew its inspiration the 18th century, his favourite time period.
The collection featured classic designs from the historical time period, like the pastel colour palette, floral embroidery, and frilly flowy skirts. However, it also included Chanel’s signature suits, reimagined with a longer hemline and bateau necklines.
Another show-stopping aspect of the show was the makeup. The models strutted down the runway with dark and dramatic eye makeup, bold red lipstick, and 80s hair-do inspired by the legendary David Bowie.
All of that aside, all eyes were on the final look, which is a bridal look. Karl went against tradition, and opted for a shimmering bridal bathing suit. Vittoria Ceretti closed the show in a sequined swimsuit with a matching swimming cap that had a glittery veil attached to it.
