Move over Alexa Chung – supermodel extraordinaire Cara Delevingne is hot on your heels after unveiling her latest fashion collaboration with Mulberry: the Cara Delevingne capsule bag collection.
Cara’s collaboration with the designer brand couldn’t have come at a better time. Since the departure of creative director Emma Hill last summer, and their lack of show at London Fashion Week, the brand has seen bag sales slump. So what do you do when you’re in a fashion lull? You hire the best the industry has, and with the model-of-the-moment boasting over 1.4 million Twitter followers and four million Instagram fans, you know she has the credentials to make your products get noticed by all the right people.
The Mulberry Cara Delevingne capsule range, inspired by Cara’s Made In England tattoos, follows on from the Alexa bag, inspired by fellow British model Alexa Chung – a slouchy tote that sent sales through the roof for the Somerset-born brand. This time Mulberry went one further, and instead of solely naming the bag after Cara, the supermodel also designed the collection. “I hate that thing where celebrities just slap their names on any old thing,” said the iconic model. “I don’t ever want to do anything I don’t have a connection with.”
During the unveiling of the collection at Claridge’s ballroom in London, Cara kept her look simple – allowing her products to do the talking – wearing a crisp white dress and walking in bare feet. Cara showcased the multi-functional bag surrounded by a pack of grey whippets in a magical forest setting.
The collection of the backpack-style bags come in three sizes, with three different finishes, all with a Made In England stamp on the bottom, in tribute to Cara’s body ink on the sole of her foot. On asking who would wear the Mulberry Cara Delevingne bag, the model said: “My granny will like this bag. She’s 102. My five-year-old cousin will probably like this bag. He’s a boy.” Cara, you can add Emirates Woman on to your list too…
