Not content on simply being one of the fashion industry’s greatest models, Cara Delevingne has not only made her acting debut in British short film Timeless, but has now revealed that she will be also be turning designer for DKNY.The 21-year-old Brit made the announcement about her capsule collection for DKNY on Instagram, saying: “Get Ready!!! It’s Coming… #Cara4DKNY”, alongside a picture of what appeared to be the official logo for the collection.
The model, who is a regular in DKNY advertising campaigns, will be producing a 15-piece collection, which will be “mostly unisex” and includes beanies, T-shirts and a leather motorcycle jacket with removable sleeves. The collection is said to have a “special meaning to Cara”.
What makes the collaboration so much more exciting is the fact that Cara has decided to recruit two or three of her fans to help her with the project. Taking to social media, the model, who also stars in the A/W14 campaign for Burberry alongside new best pal Suki Waterhouse, called upon her followers to cease the unique opportunity.
In her Instrgram post she said: “#CaraD4DKNY and #CaraWantsYou between now and 16 June” for the opportunity to join her in New York for the shoot.
Cara said of her collaboration with the Donna Karan International brand: “They always encouraged my design input, my personal style and my ideas from the very beginning of our working relationship. DKNY is urban and edgy but, most of all, it’s individual. They truly embrace the weirdness in all of us, so you can really be yourself.”
This isn’t Cara’s first foray into the world of design. Following in the footsteps of model pal Alexa Chung, the star designed a collection of bags for Mulberry. The Mulberry Cara Delevingne capsule range was inspired by Cara’s Made In England tattoos.
Talking about her various project, the versatile star said: “People ask me whether I’m trying to be J-Lo, what with the singing and acting. But why can’t you do lots of different things? It keeps you fresh. And think about the number of different hobbies people have.”
Cara’s big screen debut in Timeless is released on sky.com/playhouse on June 19. While her collection for DKNY will be available in stores and online at the end of October with prices starting from US$70.
