Cannes 2023: 8 Indian celebrtities spotted at the film festival

With a vision to leave a mark on the French Riviera every year, Indian celebrities are known for putting their best fashion foot forward for the most coveted film festival in the wolrd.

Back in 2002, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was one of the first Indian celebrities to walk the red carpet at the prestigious festival — and for the next twenty-plus years, she continued to forge a path for everyone that came next.

In her two-decade-long appearances at Cannes, the Pink Panther actor and L’oreal ambassador has served many note-worthy looks. From her iconic Michael Cinco princess gown in 2017 to the sculpted couture she wore by Gaurav Gupta in 2022 — she is all about channelling opulence at Cannes.

Over the years, A-list actors like Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Deepika Padukone and Vidya Balan along with Aishwarya have represented India either as a guest of the festival or as a brand representative.

Last year, actor Deepika served as a jury member at the 75th Cannes Film Festival and walked the red carpet multiple times in sublime couture by designers like Sabyasachi and Louis Vuitton.

This year, more and more Indian celebrities are gracing the festival, preferably decked in ensembles crafted by Indian couturiers. First-time attendee, Sarah Ali Khan made a statement in a custom-made lehenga by ace Indian couturiers Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla.

Besides the Gen-Z star, actors like Mrunal Thakur and Diana Penty also worked with an Indian designer, Falguni Shane Peacock for their respective Cannes looks. This year, the celebrities were all about bringing maximalist energy to the red carpet. Long trails, giant bows, hooded gowns and surface ornamentations, which can be spotted from a mile.

Alongside big Bollywood names, content creators like Masoon Minawala and Dolly Singh also walked the red carpet. While Masoom made multiple appearances, her standout look this season was a monochrome gown by an Arab designer Marmar Hakim. Going bold for her debut, Dolly wore an ice blue down by Marwan on day 1 and bespoke Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla on day 2.
