Fancy an all-expenses-paid trip to Cannes?

If your Instagram stories are things of beauty and you’re the friend in charge of recording special moments, it might be time to try your hand at something a little bit more polished.

The UAE’s National Program for Happiness and Positivity is holding a short film competition. This is your chance to show off your iMovie skills.

With a one-minute time limit, it’s going to be more about mood and setting than a full-size narrative. The program’s website says entries should be “about happiness reflecting people’s different convictions, beliefs and perspectives on happiness and how to achieve it.”

“The content of the film should be positive, inspirational and meaningful,” the site continues. “The idea may tackle a specific positive value or an inspirational personal or social experience, or highlight a positive and inspirational character.”

We’d say it’s more than worth having a go. The winning film will get its maker Dhs50,000, with Dhs30,000 for second place and Dhs20,000 for third.

Perhaps more exciting is that those three winners get a trip to the Cannes Film Festival. Not a bad spot for some networking…

It’s open to anyone who lives in the UAE, but film production companies can’t participate. The idea is for everyday people to have a go, which we think is very cool.

You’ve got a little while to work on it, too. Submissions close on March 20, with winners announced on April 18 and winning films screening in Vox Cinemas from April 19 to July 30.

Suggested categories include drama, documentary and animation, but you’re welcome to work within your own chosen mode.

So if you’re the next Sofia Coppola, get cracking.
