Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone recently touched down in Dubai.
The actress was one of the stars in attendance at the inaugural Time100 Impact Awards which took place at the Museum of the Future, marking the first big event for “the world’s most beautiful building”.
Gracing the red carpet, the 36-year-old shared with Emirates Woman her excitement to be back in Dubai, a place she considers a home away from home.
“It always feels amazing to be back to Dubai, since it’s so close to India, that makes me feel at home,” she said. “There are several aspects that contribute to it such as the people, the culture, the food and the energy.
“Even though I’m away from home, coming here doesn’t make me feel like I’m in a completely alien land.”
The actress also discussed the incredible architecture of the Museum of the Future, where the star-studded event took place, highlighting its balance between its futuristic look and local culture.
“We’re checked into a hotel that’s close by and I can see this architectural structure from my window,” she said. “Its futuristic design truly stands out from every angle.
“Despite the building’s innovative elements, it’s still quite rooted in the local culture, which is what makes it what it is today.”
It was a momentous night for Padukone, who was supported by her husband Ranveer Singh, as she received one of the special accolades at the gala, acknowledging her advocation for conversations surrounding mental health.
In her acceptance speech, Padukone acknowledged her own struggles with mental health.
“For all the times I felt lost, confused, disappointed, it is recognitions such as these that remind me that I am indeed on the right path,” she said. “At least for the most part and validate my life that is fuelled by purpose, authenticity and mindfulness.”
