Repping regional designers

Everything Beyoncé touches turns to gold, and the new Lion King is no exception. The long awaited release of live-action Disney classic has finally arrived and with it came an new original song. Performed by Queen B, the new single, titled Spirit was described by the star as a “love letter to Africa’. The song features on the soundtrack of the Disney remake and pays homage to the continent through music, dancers, jewellery and of course colourful fashion.

It wouldn’t be a Beyoncé song with a visually compelling video, and the Spirit video didn’t disappoint. The fashion-filled clip was filmed at Havasu Falls in the Grand Canyon, and included 12 outfit changes, dancers’ costumes, and a special pink gown for Blue Ivy’s surprise cameo. One of the designers represented in the video is Lebanese-American designer, Norma Kamali. In one of the scenes, the singer and her backup dancers can be seen in bright-yellow, stretchy dresses that perfectly blend with the desert in the background.

The New-York born designer took to Instagram to share her excitement, writing: “So happy to be a part of the visuals so beautiful thank you. And to my team Marissa Katia Mario and jimmy for getting it done!!!” Norma, who hails from Lebanese descent, is best known for her parachute-like designs and her Sleeping Bag coats. Not only that, but by being around since 1980, she has been credited with popularising shoulder pads in the 1980s.

Other stand-out looks from the video include the opening Valentino Haute Couture gown from the SS 2019 collection that perfectly matched the lilac tulle dress worn by her seven-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter.
