Lauren Conrad

From perfecting the lob (long bob) to false lash alternatives and how to achieve stronger nails, Emirates Woman answers your beauty questions…

Q.) I’m planning on chopping my hair off for New Year a la Lauren Conrad (main picture) and have noticed a lot of short, wavy bobs on the red carpet, how can I recreate this look at home?

A.) The wavy lob (long bob) as it’s been dubbed is a huge autumn/winter 2014 trend on celebs at the moment. Adam Grier, stylist at Pastels Salon Ritz Carlton reveals his top tips for creating the look at home: “It’s really easy to style – you can simply use a styling product such as a mouse or a wave enhancing cream to create that beachy look, or for a more polished finish use a wand or a tong, taking thick sections around the head to create a glamorous yet effortless look. My favourite styling tip, however, is to divide the wet hair into four sections, twisting each section and securing with a grip, then as the hair dries you can take it out and you are left with a soft Hollywood wave.”

Q.) I know eyelash extensions are really popular in this region but to me they always look a little OTT, especially when you’re at the office. Where can I get a semi-permanent but more subtle look?

A.)  If you want a mofe subtle look that still gives your eyes a boost head to SLaM salon, a hip, new establishment that specialises in wearable hair and beauty looks. Ask for Beccy, their resident beauty pro with more than 15 years experience under her belt, who can advise if you’re better suited to individual synthetic eyelash extensions or Mink Lala express individual lashes, which take half the time. Whether you want them for two days or two weeks, SLaM will customise the procedure just for you. Just a little tip – when you’ve had them taken out make sure you use a nourishing mascara, like Rimmel’s Wonder’Full, that’s gentle on the lashes to help prevent any damage.

Q.) One of my New Year’s beauty resolutions is to stop getting gellish nails every two weeks as it’s damaging the strength of my nail beds. Any advice for weaning me off the habit?

A.)  Sally Hansen may have just the ticket with their new Miracle Gel line, designed to give the glossy effect of gel without the damage and downtime. First, simply apply two coats of the Miracle Gel Color Coat followed by one layer of the Miracle Gel Top Coat and you’ve got longwearing lacquers that last up to two weeks.
