In this week’s Beauty Q&A , Samantha reveals the best anti-frizz products, make-up for oily skin and the perfect pedicure.
Q.) Humidity levels might have dropped this month but my hair still goes from flat to frizzy the minute I step out the door, help!
A.) If your hair is quick to frizz in any weather it usually means the cuticles are very dry. Keep it healthy and moisturised with a nourishing mask and try to wash it every other day rather than every day, if you can. Once you’ve styled your hair use a high strength hairspray like the new Infinium formula from L’Oreal to lock down the look. Used backstage by James Pecis at shows like Sonia Rykiel, Chloé, Kenzo and Carven last season it holds the hair tight without leaving a crispy or powdery finish.
Q.) What’s a great make-up range for oily skin that won’t give me spots?
A.) For women with problem skin I’ll always recommend Clinique. They formulate all their products with sensitive skin sufferers in mind and don’t pack them with perfumes and rich creams that can irritate your pores. If you were looking to treat excess oiliness I’d also start adding a cleansing brush to your grooming routine. Clarisonic and Philips have great models, as does Olay, who launched their new Regenerist 3 step programme this week. Complete it once a week and you should start to see a change in your skin within the month.
Q.) As a lifeguard I spend a lot of my day getting in and out of the water and walking across hard surfaces. I don’t have time to go for a pedicure every week but I’d love to keep my feet in shape. Can you help?
A.) High levels of chlorine and rough surfaces can be as damaging to the skin on your feet as a pair of six inch heels. Foot spas and heavy creams are a great way to heal the first signs of dry skin but as this is your day job I would suggest you take a more effective approach by removing the dead skin from your heels every day. Use a manual or electronic buffer like the new Scholl Velvet Smooth Express Pedi device that uses integrated microgranuals to gently buff away flaking skin and prevent you from getting cracked heels. Next cover your feet with Vaseline or a soothing cream, stick on a pair of socks and you’ll wake up to flawless feet.
