Living in the desert can be a little tricky, especially when temperatures start to soar above 40 degrees. With make-up meltdowns at an all-time high and skin woes making us all feel a little low, your beauty regimen needs a shake-up.
As a former adult acne sufferer myself and Beauty Editor to boot, trust me I’ve been there.
I found myself dodging direct sunlight like the plague and dreading meeting new people who didn’t know me before an army of blemishes decided to set up camp on my forehead. Not to mention arriving home after a full day in the office to see a panda staring back at me in the mirror (mascara smudges is never a good look).
This had to stop, here’s how I battle the heat during Dubai’s hot summer.
First lesson: The Skin SOS
Book yourself in for a deep cleansing facial with therapist Yu at The Address Hotel, The Dubai Mall. Yu is so thorough, she will devise a programme using her kit of Natura Bisse products to help you beat the blemish.
Luxe face creams can stay on the top shelf of the beauty cabinet for now, as a lightweight serum is more than enough to hydrate.
Invest in the Urban Decay De Slick in a tube Mattifying Gel and apply throughout the day to keep any hint of shine at bay.
Stash some oil blotting papers in your make-up bag, desk drawer and glove box for emergency use.

Second lesson: The Make-up meltdown
Switch heavy-duty foundation for a BB cream, preferably one with an added SPF.
Look for waterproof and water-resistant products that once dry, won’t budge, making middle of the day touch-ups a thing of the past.
Dust over a fine setting powder when your make-up is complete to ensure it stays put.

Third lesson: Tress talk
Our precious strands suffer in the heat, turning frizzy and ultimately unmanageable. Keep yours on the straight and narrow by using a hydrating mask once a week.
Slick it on and sit in the sauna/steam for ten minutes to allow it soak in fully. And on sun-soaked beach days pack a protecting spray, hair needs sun protection too!
